How to find a pen pal
So, you are looking for a pen pal?  There are several small publications which cater for people like you who are seeking a pen pal from another country. It is just a matter of responding to an advertisement placed by someone from another part of the world who is also looking for a pen pal. Once you have found someone you may like as your pen pal it is time to put pen to paper and start writing.  What information should you make known to your prospective pen pal? Just the basics such as your age, your hobbies, occupation, etc. You will already have some information about your hopefully new pen pal from their advertisement and this can be a useful starting point for your letter. If he or she lists travelling as one of their interests you can then say, "I love travelling too, I have travelled to Scotland where I visited Stirling Castle and Edinburgh Castle." Not everyone you write to will respond; there can be various reasons why you never received a response from someone you hoped would be your pen pal.  Maybe he or she received too many responses to their advertisement and found it too expensive to let you know. Including an email address in your letter is a good idea as it makes it easier for others to contact you but it is a good idea to use a separate email address for this purpose because you still need to keep in mind that your pen pal may turn out to be a scammer. It has happened! You also have the option of placing your own advertisement for a pen pal.
Writing your pen pal advertisement Include any relevant details in your advert to let others know your preferences. Not sure where to start? Here is a list of questions: Do you want a male or female pen pal or both? Are there an age range which you prefer? Do you prefer pen pals from a certain country? Are you wanting to connect with others with similar interests/hobbies? Once you have decided on your personal preferences it is time to write a letter to the pen pal magazine publisher or write it out on the website form if you are doing this through a pen pal website. Once that is all done it is time to just sit back and wait for any responses to arrive in the post. There are a number of pen pal magazines and pen pal sites about. It is a good idea to try several of them to see which one is the best.  This could be the start of a whole new adventure for you. Good luck. www.penpalsnz.weebly.com

 Dear Friend
Your best friend may not live in your own neighbourhood, he or she may reside in a far away country and in today's world one can communicate with others instantly via skype, facebook, and other social media outlets however there is nothing as personal as receiving a handwritten letter from another human being from a faraway land. In order to help you find new friends, I publish "Bobbles" penpal mag which has been out since 2007. It has personal ads from penpal seekers and collectors seeking to exchange with like minded people. There is also a good number of ads in "Bobbles" from other penpal clubs. "Bobbles" is $5 US but if you live elsewhere then a bank note of any denomination is acceptable.

HOW TO START & SUCCESSFULLY OPERATE A CORRESPONDENCE CLUB
There are lonely men and women all over the world eagerly seeking others to make contact with. This could be for friendship and correspondence leading to something more serious later on, but not necessarily. Some collectors of postage stamps, beer labels, or bank notes,  are seeking other collectors to exchange with or are learning a new language and are looking for a penfriend to help them with.
You can help these people with your very own correspondence club.

PENPALLING RULES
There are some basic rules to observe when pen palling. One is to write clearly because not everyone comes from a country where English is the first language. Another is to write in a friendly but not forceful manner which gives the recipient the impression that you are desperate. It takes time to get to know someone so keep in mind that you are writing to complete strangers. It is possible to go to the other extreme however and give your prospective penfriend that you are cold by ending your letter with "Yours Faithfully". This should only be used in business letters and only when you do not know the name of the person you are writing to.
